Tech Spirit Barcelona, entrepreneurs conferences for entrepreneurs

Barcelona, ​​February 18, 2020 – Born spontaneously after the cancellation of 4YFN and MWC, the Barcelona Tech Spirit initiative, organized by Barcelona Tech City together with the Barcelona City Council, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, ACCIÓ, Barcelona Activa, the Mobile World Capital Barcelona, ​​the Consorci de la Zona Franca, the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, the Government of Spain and other institutions of the startup community, will host several activities and conferences to promote entrepreneurship as announced in a press meeting held today in El Palauet.

Tech Spirit Barcelona -turned around overnight after an emergency meeting held last Thursday in the Damm Space of Pier01 of Barcelona Tech City- is already in place. It will encompass several entrepreneurship conferences to be held from February 23rd to 27th. Open to the local and international ecosystem, it will bring together networking meetings between entrepreneurs and international investment funds that were already planning to visit Barcelona at this time.

Tech Spirit Barcelona is considered a ‘one shot’ event, to be held only this year, and does not aim to be an alternative or replace other existing events. This initiative has sought to fill a gap in one of the most important weeks of the year for the local, Spanish and international digital and technological ecosystem. The objective is to keep the momentum with the planned activities scheduled this time of the year.

New proposal of activities

Tech Spirit Barcelona, ​​in addition to acting as an umbrella entity gathering the rest of the activities carried out in the city, has presented a new proposal. It will deliver a program of activities that will be developed at the Casa Llotja de Mar and will also bring together all the proposals created by other organizations, to be held at the Pier01 andPier03 spaces. Tech Spirit Barcelona kick off will take place on Sunday 23rd with the celebration of the Tech Spirit Lunch by Mobile World Capital Barcelona that will bring together 300 representatives of the digital ecosystem in La Boqueria market.

The Authorities’ Welcome Reception will take place on Monday 24th at the Caixabank  All In One Space. The bulk of the activity will be concentrated on Tuesday 25thand Wednesday 26th, with more than 40 renowned speakers between conferences and round tables that will be distributed between Casa Llotja de Mar, Pier01 and Pier03, including the Damm Space rooms, Naturgy’s Innovahub, Payment Innovation Hub and The Collider of Mobile World Capital Barcelona.

One of the most outstanding activities will be the conference delivered by Ferran Adriá on innovation and transformation. It will have local and international experts of reference such as Jerome S. Engel (from Berkeley University), Genís Roca, Alfons Cornellà and big names of the ecosystem such as Mauricio Prieto from Edreams, Oscar Pierre from Glovo, Tatxo Benet from Mediapro, Elisenda Bou from Vilynx, Carlota Pi from Holaluz, Elies Campo from Telegram, Pepe Agell from Chartboost, Mar González from Microsoft Research, Phillippe Gelis from Kantox, the soccer player and technological entrepreneur Esteban Granero and representatives of companies such as TravelPerk, SEAT, Telefónica, ImaginBank, Plug & Play, Novartis, Adevinta, Zone2Boost, InnoCells (Banco de Sabadell) among many others.

Meeting Iberia Venture Capital will be held on the 26th. The Business and Knowledge Department, through ACCIÓ, will keep the activities that it usually organizes during MWC and 4YFN such as the Open Challenges Innovation, where 120 startups from  Catalonia and the rest of the world will offer their solutions to the technological challenges in the fields of health, fintech and connectivity posed by 35 multinationals; and the Brokerage Event, where 240 companies from more than 30 different countries will participate in 20-minute bilateral interviews with other companies, large corporations and technology centers to explore opportunities for collaboration. In addition, the Levelling Playing Field will also take place in the Auditori 1899 of the Camp Nou, moderated by Maria Teixidor, Member of the Barça board of Directors.

Finally, on the 26th, BSMwill be in charge of organizing the closing act for all participants at the Palau Sant Jordi.

Facts of interest

Linked to the web and the registration, Tech Spirit Barcelona will have an app to facilitate networking among all attendees. In addition, Renfe has offered a discount rate, aimed at all the event attendees, to ease their travelling.

More than 2,500 people are expected to attend the Tech Spirit Barcelona conferences, to be held from February 23rd to 27th, with more than 40 activities, around 60 speakers and with the presence of more than 100 venture capital investors.

The initiative, to be held exclusively this year due to the exceptional events organized by the GSMA, has received the support of numerous companies, professionals and institutions, especially Telefónica, CaixaBank, Banco Sabadell. Barcelona Tech City’s team has also had the support of Firma, Llorente and Cuenca (LLYC), Mortensen, McCann and El Palauet.
